Back to the topDear Friends,
Once again we are proud to present our 2008 October Music and Entertainment Auction to all of you.
During the last months, Heritage has worked diligently to become the preferred auction venue for estates, archives, and the highest quality collections of Pop Culture Memorabilia. The fruits of our labor are clearly represented in this catalog.
We are proud to present the Glenn Ford and Eleanor Powell Estate Collection, consigned directly from son Peter. He and his wonderful wife, Lynda, have both worked tirelessly to help us assemble this amazing offering of historical and personal items from both stars. It has been a pleasure working with them, becoming friends, and embarking on this joint venture to celebrate the careers of Glenn Ford and Eleanor Powell.
Sara Karloff Sparkman has also decided to entrust us with key items from the estate of her father, Boris Karloff. Sara and her husband, William "Sparky" Sparkman, both dear friends, have worked long and arduously to help us present these treasures from the "Gentleman King of Horror," Boris Karloff. It has been an honor and a pleasure.
It should be noted that there will be additional treasures from the Glenn Ford/Eleanor Powell Estate and the Boris Karloff Estate in our upcoming February auction.
Of course, there is much more:
- The Theda Bara Costume Archive, passed on directly from Ms. Bara to the then-12-year-old neighbor girl and dear friend, Joan Craig.
- Billy Wilder original archival treasures from all of his key films, including, The Seven Year Itch, The Spirit of St. Louis, Lost Weekend, Some Like It Hot, and The Apartment.
- Universal makeup genius Jack Pierce's original and personal scrapbook, full of amazing photos and ne'er-before-seen information.
- Not one, but two Academy Awards: one from 1948's Joan of Arc and the other from 1937's In Old Chicago... Alice Brady's Best Supporting Actress Award.
I could go on and on, but there are also the musical treasures!
We've had the honor to have J. D. Sumner's daughters consign treasures from their father's estate. Of course, J. D. was the founder of The Stamps vocal group, as well as Elvis Presley's best friend and fellow band member for years. After travelling to Memphis to pick up this incredible collection, J. D.'s daughters introduced us to some of Elvis' other friends and family. The result was that, in this auction, we present some of the most important and historical Elvis memorabilia ever offered for sale. We made many new friends in Memphis, and are honored that they entrusted us with their items to put in auction.
Other Music highlights include:
- A signed record by Buddy Holly, the Big Bopper, Ritchie Valens, and others, penned on the evening of February 2, 1959, just before they all tragically died in a plane crash.
- Kurt Cobain's personally owned, stage and screen-worn wristwatch -- the only one he was known to wear in the last years of his short life...
- Beatles rare records, memorabilia, and a set of autographs acquired during their historic meeting with Elvis Presley in California.
- Record awards, memorabilia, and other archival material associated with Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young.
- Some of the rarest Rock and Roll Handbills, Posters, and Records we have ever offered.
It's all here, waiting for you to see on the pages of this catalog. Enjoy each and every item we proudly offer you; I am confident you will discover something you just have to have for your collection; and, most of all, thanks for all your support and kind words during the last year. It means the world to all of us here at Heritage!
My best,
|
