Condition Notes: Centering a round amethyst measuring 6.85 mm and an oval amethyst measuring 13.50 × 8.50 mm, this whimsical design is further accented by antennae tipped with round colorless topaz. The piece is unmarked but tests as 14k gold by XRF analysis. The wings display quartz with amethyst color zoning and prominent hematite inclusions, a combination commonly associated with material from the Shangaan Amethyst Mine in the Chibuku region of Zimbabwe, near the Mozambique border, though it may also occur from other sources. The Brandberg region of Namibia, located in the Erongo Mountains, also produces similar material.
