Condition Notes: This sapphire is described as basalt related because its gemological features are consistent with formation in basaltic volcanic environments. Sapphires typically develop in one of two geological contexts when considering primary sources: metamorphic marble hosted deposits or basalt related volcanic environments. This example bears a nice coloration and good clarity without appearing overly dark which can be the case with some basaltic sapphire localities.
