Recordon Late Emery, London, No. 7420 Rare Gold Quarter Hour Repeater With Alarm, circa 1805
Case: three body, 18k rose gold, London hallmarks and Louis Comptesse makers mark, engine turned back and band, signed and numbered gilt dust lid, 57 mm, lock out lever for the push pendant on the rim
Dial: gold with circular engine turnings, raised gold Arabic numerals, outer minute divisions, blued steel Breguet moon hands and alarm pointer
Movement: frosted gilt full plate, free standing barrel with engraved cover and maltese cross governor, independent barrel for the alarm, chased single footed balance cock, cylinder escapement, escape wheel jeweled in screwed chaton, under-sprung three arm brass balance with bi-metallic compensation curb arm, blued steel gong rods
Signed: Recordon Late Emery London No. 7420 on the dust cap

Louis Recordon (1756-1826) was originally from Saint Croix who first settled in Geneva and then in London. He was an agent and friend for Breguet in England and sold approximately 75 Breguet timepieces to the British, including some to the British Monarchy. Recordon was one of the first to develop the self-winding watch, and in 1780 he was granted "Letters Patent" by King George III, concerning an automatic winding mechanism. A similar watch by Recordon (No. 7480), a rare minute repeater (no alarm) sold at auction in 2005 for the price of 24,160 CHF.
