Hamilton Very Rare 14k White Gold "Glenn Curtiss" Vintage Wristwatch, circa 1931Case: 27 mm x 38 mm, 14k white gold, two body, hand made by Perrin Watch Co. numbered A-1752, case back engraved with 1931 Masonic presentation
Dial: silvered, applied yellow gold Arabic numerals, subsidiary seconds, black minute track, blue steel kite form hands
Movement: No. 2919682, grade 979-F, 19 jewels, manual winding
Band: alligator, metal buckle
The Hamilton 1931 catalog description lists the Glenn Curtiss as "An aristocratic model designed with a fine sense of proportion. In hand made case of 14k yellow or white gold. Consumer price $150.00.
Exceptionally rare, this model was named after Glenn Hammond Curtiss. Glenn Curtiss was a very important name in aeronautical history. In 1907, Glenn Curtiss broke the world speed record and was known as "The Fastest Man on Earth." In addition, he had the honor of receiving the first US Pilot License #1 and his company was the creator of the famous Curtiss engine, one of the most successful early aeronautical companies and maker of the famous Curtiss-Jenny bi-plane.
