George Graham London Gold Cylinder Fusee, No. 6561, circa 1740Case: 18k gold, engine turned hinged back and bezel, solid gold fixed inner dust lid, deeply carved band, pendant and bow, 48 mm, glass crystal
Dial: gold with raised rose gold Roman numerals, gold spade hands, multicolor flowers and leaves on the edge
Movement: No. 6561, gilt full plate, baluster pillars, pierced and engraved single footed winged balance cock with mask, diamond endstone, steel cylinder escape wheel, silver disc regulator
Signed: Geo. Graham London on the movement and gilt dust cap
Note: George Graham is one of the most eminent English makers. He was an assistant to Tompion from 1696 and in partnership with him until 1713. Graham is credited with the improvement and perhaps even the invention of the cylinder escapement.
