Condition Notes: This sculptural 18k gold wristwatch was designed by British goldsmith Roy Cecil King for Bueche-Girod, with the bracelet and case bearing his "RCK" maker's mark alongside British hallmarks. A striking example of King’s mid-century artistry, the watch features a bark-textured ladder-like structure that frames a rich tiger’s-eye dial—minimalist yet luxurious. The mechanical movement winds, runs, and sets properly, though servicing is advised for timekeeping accuracy.
King partnered with Bueche-Girod to produce distinctive timepieces celebrated for their architectural forms and precious materials. His award-winning designs from the 1960s remain part of the permanent collection at Goldsmiths' Hall, underscoring the lasting significance of his contribution to British modernist jewelry.
Bueche Girod: Bueche Girod was a Swiss watchmaker founded in 1947 by Vital Bueche and Edwige Girod in Biel/Bienne. Renowned for sculptural gold designs and mechanical precision, the brand supplied movements to elite names like Cartier and Universal Genève. Its signature style—gem-set bezels, tiger’s-eye dials, and bold case shapes—flourished in the 1960s and '70s. Though the brand disappeared in the 1980s during the quartz upheaval, its timepieces remain sought-after today for their rarity, craftsmanship, and quiet elegance.
