Condition Notes: The Tree of Life brooch is so iconic. The tree bears large colored gemstones for fruit, each stone's setting is attached to articulated links, allowing the gemstones to sway with movement enhancing light return. This piece is in very good condition, save for some trivial surface blemishes on a few colored stones, visible only with magnification. The reverse is marked Julien Cohen 18k, featuring a pinstem and catch for secure wear. It comes accompanied by a Julius Cohen jewelry box specific to this piece. Please note, there is a slight discrepancy with the accompanying receipt/paperwork, with the colored stone count.
Julius Cohen: In 1929, while just a teen, Julius Cohen began working for his uncles at Oscar Heyman Brothers. He spent thirteen years as an apprentice learning the old world approach and techniques of jewelry manufacture, before joining illustrious jeweler Harry Winston. He expanded the Winston brand across the US, most predominantly in Texas. Julius Cohen struck out on his own, opening a New York salon in 1955. His business catered to an exclusive clientele, by employing a marketing approach of serving clients at their homes. This exclusivity combined with excellence of craftsmanship and design made Julius Cohen jewelry highly sought after. The designer passed away in 1995. His business continues today under the leadership of his son-in-law, Leslie Steinweiss.
