Overall Condition: Very Good
Condition Notes: The Cartier Golden Fleece pendant is a coveted vintage piece (circa 1970s) inspired by the ancient Greek myth of the divine ram’s fleece, long a symbol of royalty, valor, and heavenly favor. Crafted in 18k gold, it features a richly textured body reminiscent of wool, contrasted by sleek, polished accents. The design alludes to the mythical ram sent by the gods to intervene in a moment of peril, swooping down to save Phrixus, a young prince condemned to sacrifice. Lifting him into the sky, the ram soared over land and sea, delivering him safely to Colchis, where the golden fleece was later enshrined as a sacred relic. This storied artifact would go on to spark the epic quest of Jason and the Argonauts. Coveted by collectors, the pendant distills that mythic journey into wearable sculpture, capturing the power of ancient narrative through Cartier’s distinctive aesthetic. The chain bears the Cartier hallmark and serial FQ2743; the pendant is signed 'Cartier' with a hand-inscribed serial number 94-78-40.
Cartier: In 1847 Louis-Francois Cartier founded his business, creating jewelry made of gold, awash with colorful enamels and glittering gemstones. This appealed to the French aristocracy. His son, Alfred joined him, and later grandsons Louis, Pierre, and Jacques, who took over during the Art Deco era. The company's distinctive Oriental-influenced style helped create a jewelry empire with worldwide locations. Joined by designer Jeanne Toussaint in 1933, Cartier created a range of vanity cases, desk sets and accessories. The firm continues to produce exquisite jewelry, watches, and objects d'art for a prestigious clientele under the umbrella of the Richemont Group. Gold
