Condition Notes: A singular and storied creation, this one-of-a-kind diamond solitaire necklace centers on an extraordinary 8.98-carat star-cut diamond—celebrated as the largest known example of its kind when featured in Vogue magazine's 1998 "Reach for the Stars" sweepstakes. Cut and owned by Fancoldi, the diamond specialist behind the patented star-cut design, the stone is accompanied by an updated GIA report and extensive supporting documentation. The diamond is mounted in a custom platinum setting suspended from an 18-inch, hammered-finish 22k gold chain marked for Jean Mahie, reference number 21540, and completed with a hook-and-loop closure. Jean Mahie personally confirmed the manufacture of this one-of-a-kind necklace. Evocative of celestial inspiration, refined into a museum-worthy statement of modern design.
Jean Mahie: Jean Mahie is a pseudonym that represents artist Jacline and Jean Marie Mazard, established in Paris, 1970. The Father-daughter-in-law team prefer to work in 22 karat gold. Each extraordinary, one-of-a-kind piece is hand forged, drawing influence from Roman, Greek, and Phoenician art with an interpretation of primitive design elements. The Mazards often collaborate on the same piece, with an artistry and touch that is seamless, as if made by one individual. They were amongst the first artists to create their own work and to have their pieces represented at Cartier and Van Cleef & Arpels, in Paris, under the “Jean Mahie” name. The jewelry caught the attention of a Neiman Marcus agent and one year later, the company brought the collection to the USA. Jean Mahie continues to produce new interpretations of their evocative designs with the same standard today.
