Description

Hamilton 14k White Gold "Floyd Bennett" "Captain Rice" Vintage Watch, circa 1940's
Case: 28 mm x 38 mm, 14k white gold, original hand made case by Perrin Watch Case Co., two body, 1944 inscription on the case back, No. A-1452
Dial: silvered, Arabic numerals, luminous skeleton spade hands, sub seconds, black minute track
Movement: No. 4474932, grade 987-E, 17 jewels, manual winding
Band: leather, metal buckle

Hamilton introduced the Floyd Bennett in February 1930 listing the model named after "One of America's outstanding air pioneers" in it's records. It was renamed the "Captain Rice" shortly after it's introduction. Like the Glenn Curtiss, this model had the Hamilton high grade 979 movement and was housed in a hand made case made by the Perrin Watch Case Co. It is estimated that 352 pieces were made in white gold and the consumer price was $150.00. This was an extraordinary amount during the Great Depression.
