Case: 18k gold, 58 mm, four body, plain back, front inscribed "Capt. R.G. Edwards", gold cuvette, inner bezel and glass over the movement, gold slide for the repeat, gold button for the center seconds
Dial: enamel, black Roman numerals, outer 1/5th seconds, subsidiary dials for the months, date, seconds with moon phase and the days of the week, gold Louis XV hands
Movement: 36 jewels, nickel bridge, straight line lever escapement, bimetallic compensated balance, counter poised pallet fork, jeweled to the hammers, quarter hour repeater, visible chronograph work, lever set
Signed: case with FRC makers mark, gross weight 169.6 grams

Note: This timepiece is accompanied by a first edition signed copy of "The Deep Six" by Captain R.G. Edwards. Published by Herbert Jenkins Ltd. London, the jacket notes state "Capt. R.G. Edwards" must be one of the last modern sea-captains who learned their trade in sail. Running away from home at the age of fourteen, he sailed before the mast in ships of every rig and size, usually under conditions of severe hardship and sometimes imminent personal danger. A letter from a family member of the business partner, and close friend, who was gifted the watch by Capt. Edwards widow after his death in 1965 is included with the lot.
