Condition Notes: In fantastic condition, this suite presents an unusual stone choice for Bvlgari, featuring banded rhodochrosite. This manganese carbonate mineral displays rich pink to rose-red hues with distinctive banding from creamy white to deep crimson. Transparent crystals are prized for faceting, while banded material is especially used in jewelry and carvings. Major sources include the Capillitas Mine in Argentina, the Sweet Home Mine in Colorado, and additional deposits in South Africa, Peru, and Romania. The necklace is marked < *1970 AL >, attributed to Big Bag S.r.l. di Gianni Bucciato, Italy. The earrings bear Bvlgari’s Italian mark < *2337 AL > and are designed for pierced ears though one post has broken away. The pieces are accompanied by a Bvlgari necklace folio.
Bvlgari: A Greek goldsmith, Sotirio Bvlgari, founded the Italian firm Bvlgari in Rome in 1881. Together with his sons, Bvlgari created magnificent jewels embodying the spirit, classicism and ageless beauty of Greek and Roman art, with a modern flair. Their distinctive style employed heavy link chains supporting ancient coins with gem accents. Fashion-minded celebrities as well as the aristocracy became devout Bvlgari patrons. The luxury brand Bvlgari set a high bar for Italian jewelry competitors for over a century. The firm continues under the LVMH umbrella.
