Description
14.50 ct TanzaniteShape: Oval
Measurements: 17.45 x 13.55 x 9.53 mm
Condition Report*:
Colored Gems:
Type(s): Tanzanite
Shape(s): Oval
Count: 1 - 25
Avg Quality: Good
Overall Condition: Good
Condition Notes: Tanzanite is a rare variety of the mineral zoisite, found exclusively in the Merelani Hills of Tanzania. Legend has it that a Maasai tribesman discovered tanzanite by accident circa 1967 when he stumbled upon a large crystal eroding from the Earth. This particular specimen features a modified oval cut with Portuguese-style faceting on the pavilion, showcasing a primarily violet-blue coloration. The stone presents beautifully to the naked eye, exhibiting a moderate shift from violet to blue due to its classic pleochroism. Almost all tanzanite is heated to enhance its blue color, as unheated specimens typically appear brown. This example is in good condition, aside from a slightly off-center culet which adds to the overall charm.
