Condition Notes: This platinum necklace by Tiffany & Co. centers a breathtaking 19.24 x 19.20 x 12.96 mm cushion-cut tourmaline, exhibiting a saturated and luminous blue-green hue that places it at the pinnacle of tourmaline quality. The stone’s vivid tone borders what the trade often refers to as indicolite tourmaline, a designation reserved for exceptionally rare specimens within this richly aquatic color spectrum. With outstanding internal clarity and a deeply saturated color that appears to glow from within, the gem anchors the composition with magisterial intensity.
Surrounding the center stone is a halo of full-cut diamonds, precisely bezel-set into the platinum frame. The necklace continues with alternating 4.50 mm cushion-cut diamonds and 3.00 mm full-cut rounds, each bezel-set along the length of the chain in a rhythmic and symmetrical layout. Under magnification, the majority of diamonds exhibit abrasions to their culets, likely the result of the original manufacturing process rather than wear.
The reverse of the pendant is clearly marked "Tiffany & Co. Platinum", confirming both maker and metal content. Notably, the pendant and chain are permanently integrated, separation or modification will require custom bench work, as they are not designed to detach by conventional means. Accompanied by a copy of a Retail Price Update issued for Insurance purposes from Tiffany & Co. dated August 23, 2024, stating the current retail amount of $500,000.
Tiffany & Co.: Charles Lewis Tiffany (1812-1902) founded the firm that bears his name in 1837. The boutique style business retailed stationery, silver, jewelry and objets d'art. With the growth of their jewelry interests, Tiffany soared. The company is credited with revolutionizing the jewelry industry by the invention of the open six-prong diamond setting. By 1907, the son of the founder, Louis Comfort Tiffany, rose to international attention for his profusion of the arts: painting, art glass and jewelry. As Tiffany & Company expanded, they offered select designers the ability to sign their pieces designed for the Tiffany & Co. brand; such as in 1955 Donald Claflin and Jean Schlumberger, in 1967 Angela Cummings, later Elsa Peretti in 1974 and most recently Paloma Picasso in 1980.
