Bottega Veneta is an Italian brand specializing in handcrafted leather goods. Michele Taddei founded Bottega Veneta in 1966 with the goal of highlighting the traditions of Italian leather craftsmen.
Soon after the brand was established, the Bottega Veneta artisans developed a leather weaving technique known as “intrecciato” which has been a signature of the brand ever since. The company has always sought to highlight materials and construction over monograms and logos; Bottega Veneta’s famous slogan is “where your own initials are enough.” Bottega Veneta has designed a host of well-loved bag designs such as the Knot Clutch, the Cabat Tote, and the Veneta Hobo bag all of which have become brand staples.
In 2001 Bottega Veneta was acquired by Gucci Group, now Kering, which allowed the brand to expand into other production venues including ready-to-wear, shoes, eyewear, home goods and luggage. Following the acquisition, Bottega Veneta began collaborating with celebrated photographers like Nan Goldin, Nick Knight and Annie Leibovitz to create enticing advertising campaigns.
To solidify their commitment to Italian crafting, Bottega Veneta opened a school to train future leather craftsmen. Bottega Veneta’s refined and discrete sense of brand identity have made it a leading luxury brand.
