Goyard

Goyard is a rare bird among brands on the secondary market. As the house does not sell online, advertise, or use social media, one would think few people would ever have even heard of the hand-painted canvas bags that men and women everywhere are so desperate to get their hands on.

The typical price of a pristine Goyard bag on the second-hand market is often the same as the retail price, if not a hair more. When thinking about a Goyard bag, the most important thing to consider (some may say this is the only thing to consider), is color. Goyard bags come in an unchanging variety of colors, and since most Goyard bags sold second-hand are done in the classic Goyardine patterned canvas, once you decide on a color, there are only a handful of styles you’re likely to find. Your choice, if you have one (Goyard bags are few and far between no matter where you’re looking) will likely be for either the classic St. Louis tote, their Croisiere bowler, or one of the cross-body options. While leather and exotic Goyard bags do exist, they are almost never seen on the secondary-market.

What draws buyers to these colorful, often simple bags is their weightlessness. Goyard bags tend to be extremely light. You can eyeball the weight of a Goyard bag by looking at how much leather is involved in the design since leather is the only material used that has substantial weight.

When buying a bag on the secondary market, be sure to check for condition. Buying a bag that is in less than perfect condition can save you a bundle off the retail price, but be sure you’re aware of what you’re getting. The most common thing to check are the corners and the handles. Heritage’s high definition photos allow you to see every detail of the bag very clearly so be sure to check those out carefully. Also, make sure you’re aware of what accessories you’re getting with the bag. Buying an item that is missing something like the keys or shoulder strap can lower the price further, but make sure you are aware of what you’re getting.
