    Art Deco Ceylon Sapphire, Diamond, Platinum Pendant-Necklace, J.E. Caldwell & Co.
    The pendant features an oval-shaped sapphire measuring 19.80 x 15.40 x 6.42 mm and weighing approximately 15.65 carats, enhanced by European, single and rose-cut diamonds weighing a total of approximately 2.80 carats, set in platinum, suspended by a platinum chain featuring oval-shaped sapphires ranging in size from 6.78 x 6.45 x 4.50 mm to 11.25 x 8.16 x 4.90 mm and weighing a total of approximately 60.00 carats, enhanced by European-cut diamonds weighing a total of approximately 1.60 carats. An AGL report #CS 63459 dated October 3, 2014 stating Ceylon Origin, No Gemological Evidence of Heat, Clarity Enhancement: None, accompanies the sapphires. Gross weight 54.70 grams.

    J.E. Caldwell & Co.: Based in Philadelphia, this American jewelry firm was founded in 1839 by James Emmott Caldwell, a trained silversmith. The firm sold silver objects, jewelry and giftware. After changes in ownership, the name officially became J.E. Caldwell and Co. in 1868. Their exquisite hand fabricated jewels are among some of the finest examples of American Art Nouveau craftsmanship in evidence. Throughout the 1920’s, they produced refined pieces of Art Deco jewelry for which the firm is still recognized. The business continues to service the Philadelphia area today.
