    Diamond, Ruby, Enamel, Gold Brooch, Frascarolo, circa 1960
    The Ferocious Beasts leopard brooch features full-cut diamonds weighing a total of approximately 0.95 carat, enhanced by pear-shaped rubies weighing a total of approximately 0.20 carat, having blue, white and red enamel applied on 18k gold, marked for Frascarolo. Gross weight 62.70 grams.

    Condition Notes: Beauty is in the eye of the tiger. Marked Modele Depose, FC, Made in Italy with Italian assay marks. The brooch is completed by a base metal pinstem and catch that appears to be a later addition as there is visible solder attaching it. The piece also has two small bails attached to the top of the head. Enamel is chipped on the chin and just above the nose. Maker's mark is worn. Minor solder marks visible along teeth. Circa 1960. Item is from the 'Bestiario feroce' or 'ferocious bestiary' Collection.
    Frascarolo: Pierino Frascarolo (1928 – 1976) was born in Milan, Italy. Beginning his career in jewelry as an apprentice with the Fratelli Lunati Company, Frascarolo then went on to found his own jewelry business with Aldo Lenti. During the 1960s, Frascarolo became well known for his animal creations in enamel and gold. Frascarolo and Lenti eventually parted ways and Frascarolo went on to form Frascarolo & Co. in New York City with Adriano Gugliada.
