Designs inspired by the panther were found in Cartier archives as early as 1913. At the time, the panther was a pervasive theme in art and design. A symbol of exoticism, the sensual and dangerously beautiful feline represented the strong, brave and independent spirit of femininity.

The first three-dimensional panther was created in 1948 for the Duchess of Windsor. Subsequently, famous Cartier clients fell in love with these feline creations. Woolworth heiress Barbara Hutton, preferred Cartier's rendering of the tiger over the more iconic panther motif. Since then, the iconic Cartier cats have gone through multiple (variations) and are still considered a must-have for serious jewelry collectors.

The Tiger necklace offered here was a special order, one-of-a-kind High Jewelry piece produced by Cartier. It represents the legendary design and impeccable craftsmanship from the Paris Maison. The winning bidder will receive the original Cartier rendering and certificate of origin. An iconic piece for the true collector.

Cartier: In 1847 Louis-Francois Cartier founded his business, creating jewelry made of gold, awash with colorful enamels and glittering gemstones. This appealed to the French aristocracy. His son, Alfred joined him, and later grandsons Louis, Pierre, and Jacques, who took over during the Art Deco era. The company's distinctive Oriental-influenced style helped create a jewelry empire with worldwide locations. Joined by designer Jeanne Toussaint in 1933, Cartier created a range of vanity cases, desk sets and accessories. The firm continues to produce exquisite jewelry, watches, and objects d'art for a prestigious clientele under the umbrella of the Richemont Group.
