Overall Condition: Very Good
Condition Notes: A strong example of Van Cleef & Arpels craftsmanship, these earrings feature intricate, dense clusters composed of tightly grouped, fluted 18k yellow gold elements radiating outward in tapered rows. Each row is punctuated by bezel-set diamonds, mounted in platinum settings embedded directly into the gold, with stones ranging in size from approximately 1.50 mm to 2.50 mm.
The clip backings are marked VCA New York, 34755, and Made in France. They also bear the French Mercury head hallmark, a platinum control mark used for items manufactured in France and intended for export.
Overall, the earrings are in very good condition with minimal wear and no observed damage to the diamonds. The clips can be modified to accommodate posts for pierced ears if desired.
Van Cleef & Arpels: Parisian jeweler Alfred Van Cleef opened his salon in partnership with his brothers-in-law, Julien and Charles Arpels, in 1906. The company quickly earned a reputation for using only the highest-quality colored gemstones. Their timeless designs employed elegant curves and clean, fluid lines, capturing the essence of beauty in motion. In 1930, the firm patented the first minaudiere, a purse-like compartmentalized vanity case. In 1933, Van Cleef and Arpels introduced "invisible setting" or "mystery setting." This innovative technique took the market by storm. The firm continues under the umbrella of the Richemont Group.
