Condition Notes: The lipstick case showcases exceptional craftsmanship, with the diamond-set section functioning as the extender. When engaged, the mechanism initiates a sliding motion in which the 18k gold hinged cap aligns and glides smoothly into its housing compartment. The underside of the cover lid is marked Van Cleef & Arpels N.Y 27566 18k. The compact is equally lavish in design, featuring a see-through hinged compartment. The upper right portion of the mirror is marked Van Cleef & Arpels N.Y 19 S.O. While the mirror bears scattered, isolated scratches, they are minor, and a full, unimpeded reflection remains observable. Each piece is accompanied by its own pink and green travel cases, and one brown colored piece, both unsigned.
Van Cleef & Arpels: Parisian jeweler Alfred Van Cleef opened his salon in partnership with his brothers-in-law, Julien and Charles Arpels, in 1906. The company quickly earned a reputation for using only the highest-quality colored gemstones. Their timeless designs employed elegant curves and clean, fluid lines, capturing the essence of beauty in motion. In 1930, the firm patented the first minaudiere, a purse-like compartmentalized vanity case. In 1933, Van Cleef and Arpels introduced "invisible setting" or "mystery setting."
