    Overall Condition: Good
Condition Notes: This traditional Indian necklace is made using a technique called kundan/meenakari. Kundan translates to "fine gold" and refers to the 24k gold immediately around the polki diamonds that is actually gold foil that has been kneaded and compacted with iron tools as a stone-setting method. Unfortunately, the kundan has blackened due to moisture seeping into the compacted foils. The links (ghaat) inside which the diamonds sit are made of 18k gold and are filled with pitch (lac, an organic substance which is the secretion of a beetle). The necklace is completed by chain and clasp that test 14k gold. The meenakari enamel on reverse is in good condition, showing no significant chips or cracks.
