Condition Notes: Just below the white opal element, a floral spindle is present and fitted with an attached safety chain. This component functions as a threaded mechanism and may be unscrewed to release the upper lorgnette portion containing the lenses, allowing for more compact storage when separated. Decorative elements along the handle include cherubic figures, traditionally associated with love and guardianship, alongside engraved swallows symbolizing loyalty and safe return, and a caduceus motif representing balance and renewal. One lens is damaged.

Surface analysis indicates the gold has been bloomed, a finishing process in which surface enrichment draws fine gold to the exterior, creating a richer, higher karat appearance than the underlying alloy. XRF testing registers 18k, while nitric acid testing suggests the base alloy is approximately 14k, consistent with surface enrichment rather than solid 18k composition throughout.

The sapphire measures approximately 8.50 mm x 7.50 mm and exhibits minor abrasions to several crown facets visible under magnification. One lens bears a shallow, noticeable chip extending from the bridge, with additional surface scratches observed across portions of the glass. The hinged bridge located centrally between the lenses displays looseness at the hinge junction.
