    Art Deco Cultured Pearl, Diamond, Platinum Necklace, Mikimoto
    The necklace is composed of cultured pearls ranging in size from 3.70 - 4.00 mm to 5.75 - 5.85 mm, forming a graduated single knotted strand, completed by a platinum clasp accented by full-cut diamonds weighing a total of approximately 0.20 carat. Maker's mark "M" for Mikimoto. A GIA Gem Laboratory report # 2125669022, dated October 11, 2010, stating the color is cream and they are cultured, accompanies the strand.

    Mikimoto: The name Mikimoto is synonymous with the highest quality Japanese cultured pearls available. Its founder, Kokichi Mikimoto, was an early pioneer in the concept of pearl farming. While he was not the first to invent the culturing process, Mikimoto did refine it, patenting his technique. He is recognized as the master of the culturing process. The need for culturing pearls arose out of the demise of the natural pearl market in 1930, when over-fishing and pollution devastated pearl beads. Today, cultured pearls are farmed worldwide with Japan, China, Australia and Thailand the leading producers.
