    Antique Pearl, Portrait, Gold, Silver Pendant-Locket, French
    The pendant features an oval-shaped hand-painted en grisaille portrait of the Princess de Lamballe measuring 41.00 x 29.90 mm, set in 18k gold and gilt-washed silver, enhanced by seed pearls ranging in size from 1.00 mm to 2.50 mm, set in silver, suspending a baroque pearl measuring 10.50 x 9.00 mm. Gross weight 37.70 grams.

    Marie Luisa of Savoy (1749 - 1792), the Princess de Lamballe was a confidante of Marie Antoinette. The image on the miniature is a hand-painted replica of a well-known 19th century print, taken from an original portrait of the Princess by Edouard Louis Rioult that hangs in the collection at Versailles.
