Electrophoretic coating, or e-coating for short, is a
relatively new cutting-edge technique used in jewelry
manufacturing. It is a mixture of both plating and
enameling. The plating process begins with acrylic
or ceramic particles electrically adhering to the
jewel's surface. The jewel is then kiln baked to cure
the coating. The result is a thin yet surprisingly durable
metallic coating available in an array of vibrant,
eye-catching colors. E-coating is transparent, allowing
the sheen on the metal to shine through.
