Peter Lindeman: Award-winning designer Peter Lindeman supplied jewelry to esteemed retailers including Tiffany & Co., Shreve, Crump & Low, and Bailey, Banks & Biddle. Born in Berlin and raised in Montevideo, Uruguay, Lindeman apprenticed with a fine European jewelry firm before immigrating to New York in 1947 at the age of 17. There, he worked for several leading jewelers before launching his own designs in 1955.
That same year, he introduced his signature hallmark—a teardrop enclosing an “L”—stamped on the reverse of every piece. A pioneer in marketing as well as design, Lindeman was the first jeweler to travel with his collections in person, effectively inventing the modern trunk show.
His designs, often inspired by nature and featuring flowers and animals, are known for their imaginative use of materials, including the early and unconventional pairing of rough-cut diamonds with polished diamonds and colored gemstones. Lindeman’s work has been collected by Elvis Presley and Chris Evert, and is represented in the permanent collection of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston. Notably, a Zodiac Calendar pendant gifted to Presley highlights Capricorn—the shared January 8 birthday of both Presley and Lindeman. Peter Lindeman passed away in 2024. Avg Color: G-H-I
