Richard Krementz: In 1866, George Krementz started manufacturing gold jewelry in Newark, New Jersey. His company adapted to the changing styles in jewelry over the years, and by the 1970’s, Krementz collections included costume jewelry, wedding rings, 14 karat fashion jewelry, 14 karat religious jewelry, 18 karat diamond jewelry, and platinum and 18 karat colored gemstone jewelry. In 1997, the Krementz family decided to concentrate only on colored gemstones and 18 karat gold and platinum. The company continues to manufacture in Newark under Richard Krementz Gemstones. Richard Krementz III, the founder’s great grandson continues the family’s business with two collections: gemstone jewelry and bridal jewelry. The company has won the American Gem Trade Association’s Spectrum Award several times over the years, including the top honor, Best in Show, in 1999.
