Additional calibré-cut sapphires are arranged in a graduated arc and accented by square, baguette, and marquise-cut diamonds. The primary sapphire in this ring bears a minor chip on the crown, and two areas on the ring shank show hairline fractures. One accent calibré-cut sapphire was replaced in house. Australia’s primary sapphire sources include the Anakie Gemfields in Central Queensland. New England fields of New South Wales near Glen Innes and Inverell, are known for sapphires with strong pleochroism and good clarity. Tasmania also yields limited quantities, mainly collected by hobbyists who dive into rivers and scour the riverbeds.
