Condition Notes: Consistent with the basaltic origins associated with some Thai sapphire deposits, this substantial 14.65 x 10.55 x 5.86 mm example presents a deep, steely blue coloration with a strong physical presence. The overall appearance is highly appealing, with inclusions that enhance the stone’s character. Fine, altered silk bands are distributed across much of the sapphire and arranged in angular patterns that closely follow the natural growth structure of corundum. Although Thailand is now more widely recognized as a cutting and trading center than as a producing locality, this stone clearly illustrates the distinctive character of Thai sapphires.
The piece remains in very good overall condition. The shank is stamped for the sapphire weight of 8.30 carats and the diamond weight of 3.12 carats. Additional stamps for platinum are present, with the alloy verified as such through XRF analysis and standard metal testing.
