Condition Notes: These Van Cleef & Arpels earrings and brooch are so alluring. Meticulously set with radiant diamonds and vibrant emeralds, they not only perfectly capture the essence of blossoming flora, but embody the glamour and personal expression synonymous with the opulence of the 1950s. Brooch marked Van Cleef and Arpels, Made in France, 54 © on one side of hinge on double pin stem and 1V41-3 on top of hinge, having French maker's mark near end of one flower stem, illegible mark on pinstem, completed by one catch, metal shows discoloration and repairs. Earrings marked VC 3V2614 on mountings which test 18k and platinum, clip backs test 14k gold and show evidence of repairs. Due to their growth conditions in nature and recovery methods, the emeralds contain natural inclusions, with some surface reaching features.
Van Cleef & Arpels: Parisian jeweler Alfred Van Cleef opened his salon in partnership with his brothers-in-law, Julien and Charles Arpels, in 1906. The company quickly earned a reputation for using only the highest-quality colored gemstones. Their timeless designs employed elegant curves and clean, fluid lines, capturing the essence of beauty in motion. In 1930, the firm patented the first minaudiere, a purse-like compartmentalized vanity case. In 1933, Van Cleef and Arpels introduced "invisible setting" or "mystery setting." This innovative technique took the market by storm. The firm continues under the umbrella of the Richemont Group.
