Condition Notes: Demantoid garnets are among the rarest and most prized members of the garnet family, lauded for their exceptional brilliance and vivid green color. First discovered in Russia’s Ural Mountains in the mid-19th century, demantoid garnets are distinguished by their high dispersion, greater even than diamond, which gives them a fiery disposition. Fine specimens range in color from vibrant yellow-green to deep emerald/tsavorite tones, with Russian material often exhibiting the highly sought-after "horsetail" inclusions, delicate, wispy fibers of chrysotile. Today, sources also include Namibia and Madagascar, but Russian demantoids remain the most collectible and often set the standard. This is a fine example with beautiful inclusions, including chrysotile.
