Topaz is a naturally occurring gemstone that forms in a wide range of colors, with this example exhibiting rich brownish-orange to brownish reddish-orange hues, commonly referred to as sherry topaz. The name topaz is believed to derive from the ancient Sanskrit word tapas, meaning "heat" or "fire." Two minor nicks are visible near the culet area upon close inspection.
