The brooch features a European-cut diamond measuring 7.20 x 6.60 x 2.20 mm and weighing approximately 0.65 carat, enhanced by oval-shaped garnets weighing a total of approximately 29.70 carats, further enhanced by freshwater pearls measuring 2.45 mm to 5.00 x 3.30 mm, accented by rose-cut diamonds weighing a total of approximately 0.45 carat, complemented by black enamel applied on 18k gold, maker's mark for Froment-Meurice, French hallmarks. Gross weight 39.00 grams.

Emile Froment-Meurice: The son of French jeweler Francois-Désiré Froment-Meurice, Emile Froment-Meurice (1837-1913) expanded the namesake family jewelry maison by designing one-of-a-kind creations for Parisian aristocracy. After a long apprenticeship as a goldsmith with the family firm, Emile became a master metalworker, carrying on the Maison Froment-Meurice atelier until 1913. Emile was honored with the gold medal at the Paris World Exhibition in 1867 for exhibiting a monumental sculptural overmantel for the Hôtel de Ville. He was further dignified with the cross of the Legion of Honor in 1869. Most notably, the “Paris Tiara”, a papal crown presented to Pope Leo XIII by the people of Paris in 1888 to commemorate his Golden Jubilee as a priest, was imagined and crafted by Emile. Lastly, in 1900, he participated in the Paris World Exhibition and exhibited jewels in the style shown here, winning him the Grand Prix. His jewelry and objet d’art can be found in museums throughout the world.
