Victorian Enamel, Gold Jewelry Suite, Eugene Fontenay
The 18k gold suite includes a brooch featuring a matte finished enamel plaque framed above a nameplate spelling "HEP?MENH" in granulation; together with an accompanying pair of earrings. Gross weight 36.70 grams.
Brooch Dimensions: 2-3/4 inches x 1-3/4 inches
Earring Dimensions: 2-5/8 inches x 5/8 inch

Condition Report*: Designer: Eugene Fontenay
Overall Condition: Very Good
Notes: Signed "EF" on brooch clasp. For his enamel work, Fontenay turned to Eugene Richet, one of the best enamelists of the day. This brooch's enamel work is attributed to Richet, who treated his matt enamels like miniature paintings, reminiscent of Pompeian frescoes. French hallmark. Circa 1860. Minor dents. Evidence of lead solder on the reverse of the brooch.
