Louis Vuitton Damier Ebene Monogram Coated Canvas Steamer Trunk, Late 19th Century

This trunk is done in the first iteration of the Damier monogram coated canvas. It features Black and Brass hardware, wood trim, two metal handles, three flip clasps, one keylock mechanism (no key included), and four small wheels at the base. The interior is done in canvas, featuring a tufted design top and three removable trays with security straps. There are remnants of travel stickers on either side of that trunk, with a large red stamp that reads 'MAC S.F M Cal' on both sides. This trunk is numbered 36110. It features the original Damier Canvas pattern first introduced by Louis Vuitton in 1888. The monogram is stamped with 'L.VUITTON MARQUE DE FABRIQUE DEPOSEE', which translates to 'L.Vuitton registered trademark'.

This trunk shows visible signs of age and heavy wear, such as heavy scratching, tarnishing, rusting, chipping, and verdigris to the hardware together with scratching, tears, warping, fading, darkening, chipping, and marks to the coated canvas and wood trims throughout. There is a 2.5" tear at the front of the trunk exposing the wood beneath the canvas. The interior shows breaks to the ribbon at the top and security straps as well as substantial cracking, peeling, tearing, darkening, marks, water damage, and staining throughout. Included is a rectangular glass piece that sits atop the trunk making it multi-functional.
