Hamilton Fine & Extremely Rare Grade 951 Gold Pocket Watch, circa 1903Case: 14k gold hunters case, 16 size, ornately engraved with scrolls, arabesques and a blank crest, plain gold inner dust cover
Dial: double sunk Montgomery with inner red 24 hour numerals, subsidiary seconds, blue steel diamond form hands
Movement: No. 325411, nickel bridge, marked 951, 23 jewels, adjusted five positions, bi-metallic balance with gold timing screws, micrometric regulator, gold gear train, gold jewel settings, jeweled barrel, lever set, straight line damaskeening
Signed: dial and movement signed Hamilton, case signed Keystone 14K U.S. Assay
Note: the total production numbers of grade 951 movements is unknown but it is by far the rarest and most difficult to find of all the Hamilton grades. The technical features of the 951 also make it one of, if not the highest grade movement produced at the factory. Examples of gold cased 951 models are very difficult to find. The last known example which surfaced at auction was in 2006, selling with a more common dial variety and a less ornate case than the example offered here for a hammer total of $19,000.
