Though the Women's Liberation movement was in full swing in the early 1970's, the United States of America was still undeniably a "man's world" in those days, particularly in the high-octane, high-testosterone world of auto racing. While a few trailblazers like Helle Nice, Denise McCluggage and Stirling Moss' sister Pat had enjoyed varying degrees of success and fame in the middle decades of the twentieth century, young Stefania Cohen faced no shortage of obstacles as she entered the auto racing trade during the early years of Richard Nixon administration.
The offered lot represents just one of those obstacles, as our consignor found herself in need of a watch for her approaching time trials in her Porsche 356B with no rugged models made specifically for women. Around the time of her twentieth birthday in 1970, Cohen walked into Manhattan's renowned sporting goods store Abercrombie and Fitch and purchased the most thoroughly masculine wristwatch in the place, The Heuer Autavia GMT Chronograph. This state-of-the-art timepiece is particularly noteworthy for the dual signature on the dial documenting the partnership between the two storied brands. It's an enormously desirable configuration for timepiece collectors, even in the absence of its inspiring service to a daring young auto racing pioneer.

Condition: This timepiece is presented in excellent considering its purpose. Offered by the original purchaser and owner, Stefania Cohen, whose intent was to use it for her needs of auto racing (please see essay). The timepiece was worn on a nato strap, which is evident by the consistent caseback wear, although engravings can still be seen. The case and lugs are very good and sharp with some wear consistent to use. GMT bezel has aged beautifully to pink and light blue tone. The dial is excellent with even ageing to tritium lume, clean registers and the desirable dual signatures. Movement runs and sets as it should. Service is recommended for daily wear and timekeeping accuracy
