Dial: black, set with one baguette and ten round diamonds, white gold baton hands, outer 1/5th seconds track with 5 second Arabic numerals, subsidiary dials for the seconds, the 30-minute register, the days of the month, the 24 hours and leap year indications, apertures for the days of the week, the months and moon phases
Movement: No. 3045508, caliber 27-70/155, rhodium finish, stamped with the Seal of Geneva quality mark, fausses cotes decoration, 24 jewels, straight line lever escapement, Gyromax balance adjusted to heat, cold, isochronism and 8 positions, shock absorber, self-compensating free-sprung Breguet balance spring
Band: black cousu main with platinum Patek Philippe deployant clasp
Signed: Patek Philippe Geneve, with unused additional solid platinum case back, adjusting tool, Certificate of Origin, all booklets, sleeve box, wooden presentation box and outer box

Note: Patek Philippe introduced the reference 3970 in 1986 and it has it has assumed a status within the hierarchy of Patek Philippe's most classic and rarest perpetual calendar chronographs. The model was available in yellow, white and pink gold and platinum. The present example is from the third series with a highly desirable and rare black diamond set dial. In 2004, reference 3970 was replaced by reference 5970.
