Elgin Rare Lord Elgin 23 Jewel Gold 16 Size Grade 351, circa 1907Case: 14k gold, four body, plain, invisible hinges to the bezel and back, 16 size, 51 mm
Dial: enamel, double sunk, Arabic numerals, red five minutes, blued spade hands
Movement: No. 12718440, nickel 3/4 plate, straight line damaskeening, 23 jewels, adjusted five positions, safety barrel, raised gold jewel settings, jeweled barrel, black lettering, Hunter and Moseley micrometric regulator, engraved gold flower frame around the balance jewel, damaskeened winding wheels
Signed: movement is signed Lord Elgin, case marked "Roy", gross weight is 96 grams
Note: Experts believe that fewer than 500 model 351 Lord Elgin movements were produced. When it was introduced in 1905/06 the movement alone (no case) was selling for as high as $255. This amount was equal to the asking price for a Waltham Premier Maximus with case. The watch presented here is one of the hardest American made prestige models to find.
