    E. Howard & Co. Very Rare I Size (10 Size) Original Gold Cased Key Wind, No. 3454, circa 1863
    Case: 10 size, 45 mm, 18k gold, engine turned, gold dust cover, central crest in fancy frame, beaded edge, inner front cover engraved "Frank Ferguson from his Father, April 6th, 1864"
    Dial: enamel, Roman numerals, subsidiary seconds, moon and spade blued steel hands
    Movement: No. 3454, gilt 3/4 plate, Reed's patent barrel, 15 jewels, open aperture over the unique lever escapement, rounded blued steel screws, bi-metallic compensated balance, gold timing screws with hollowed out centers
    Signed: E. Howard & Co. Boston, 68.1 grams gross weight

    This ultra-rare Howard timepiece is one of the 100 piece total production of I size movements. The serial numbers ranged from 3,401 to 3,500. Approximate dates of production were 1861 to 1863. The present example is one of only a few existing with the unique escape wheel and pallet fork visible through an aperture in the movement plate.
