Note: This timepiece features an extremely rare split chronograph function based on Adolphe Nichole's British patent No. 10,348 issued on April 12, 1845. Two hands are superimposed, one above the other on the seconds arbor. Depressing a button on the rim stops one of the hands. Releasing the button allows the stopped hand to catch up with the continuously running hand. The watch also has Nichole's duplex escapement with resilient banking and his keyless winding method with was used by Dent from 1846 to 1862 as the "sole Licensee of their manufacture". This winding method prohibits setting the hands backwards when the mainspring is fully wound.
