    Hector Golay Important & Very Fine Gold Minute Repeater, circa 1885
    Case: massive, 18k yellow gold, four body, Frederick Thoms maker's marks with his patented swivel bow, 56 mm, gold repeat slide on the band, gold cuvette with inscription
    Dial: white enamel, radial black Roman numerals, black minute track, subsidiary seconds, blued steel spade hands
    Movement: No. 48892, frosted gilt half plate, lateral lever escapement, freesprung bi-metallic balance with double overcoil spring, raised barrel cover on the main plate, blued plate screws
    Signed: movement is signed "D. Munsey 19 Market Hill Cambridge", gross weight is 177.7 grams

    Note: This exceptional timepiece is identical in design to a catalog entry for complicated watches shown in an October 1885 catalog of H. Golay, London. The under dial work is identical to a signed Golay minute repeater which is shown on page 74 of the Horological Journal for March 1999. The dial of this watch is signed by a famous dial maker "Willis" on the back. The movement is signed by Munsey, a retailer and jeweler that is still in business today with a special appointment to the HRH the Prince of Wales. The case was made by the preeminent maker of the day, Frederick Thoms. His hallmark, FT in and oval, is struck in several places and the case features his patented swivel "anti-theft" bow.
