Nashua Watch Co. Rare and Important Gold American Pocket Watch, No. 1230, circa 1860
Case: massive, 18k gold, 20 size, 56 mm, open face, double hinged back, hinged front bezel, central blank crest, leaf and scroll engravings on the top, bottom rim and bezel, beveled glass crystal, inner gold dust cover with engine turnings on the perimeter, wind and set openings on the dust cover
Dial: enamel, single sunk, Roman hour numerals, black minute track, subsidiary seconds, blued steel spade hands
Movement: No. 1230, gilt 3/4 plate, 20 size, bi-metallic compensated balance with gold timing screws, counter poised pallet fork, Maltese governor on the wind arbor, screw down jewel settings, 15 jewels, domed blue steel plate screws
Signed: movement signed Nashua Watch Co. Nashua N.H., also marked Pat. Nov. 27, 1860 in a circular design under the dial on the top plate

Note: The Nashua Watch Co. was founded in 1859 by Belding Dart Bingham when he and his investors from Nashua N.H. came to the American Waltham Watch factory to learn about the production of machine made high grade watches. Bingham recruited the top horological innovators of the day including Nelson P. Stratton from Waltham and the premier machinery inventor, Charles vander Woerd. Bingham and his team of experts created the designs and production standards which ultimately laid the foundation for all high grade American factories. Since almost all of the production material made by Nashua from 1859 until its incorporation into the American Watch Co. in 1862 was left unfinished, only about four examples of 20-size keywind, keyset from the back are known to exist.

Condition: movement is very good, runs a bit but stops, needs cleaning, case is good, dial is also good, extremely faint hairline in seconds bit and a tiny tiny flake near the opening, very minor nick at the 24 minute line
