    Paulus Bramer Amsterdam Early Silver and Tortoiseshell Pair Case Verge With Date, circa 1750
    Case: inner plain silver case, outer 55 mm tortoiseshell and silver pique work case, central large silver and gilt scroll frame with central winged cherubs holding a crown, outer silver bead, flower and swag motifs
    Dial: silver champleve with Roman hour numerals, outer five minute numerals, date aperture, central filigree frame, pierced gilt hands
    Movement: gilt verge fusee with silver ribbon border around the plate, pierced and engraved two footed cock with birds, ornate pedestal pillars, silver disc regulator, worm and wheel set up between the plates
    Signed: dial and movement signed Paulus Bramer Amsterdam

    Note: Paulus Bramer (1696 - 1770) was renown as a master clock maker with examples such as a musical clock with 12 bells and moon phases. Surviving examples of watches by Bramer are very rare, far rarer than clocks by this exemplary maker. The present lot is an exceptional representation of his workmanship.
