Morisini meet Gould in Venice where he skillfully rescued Gould's son from a gang of alley robbers. Gould promised him a job if he ever made it to America and Morisini quickly accepted the offer. Morisini was known as an aficionado of fine watches and this present from Gould is certainly one of the highest grade timepieces that was available in the 1880's when gifted. The lot is accompanied by a first edition book (published in 1892), "The Life Of Jay Gould, How He Made His Millions" by Murat Halstead and J. Frank Beale, Jr.
