    Unsigned, French, Fine and Rare Mid 17th Century Pre-Balance Spring Verge, circa 1640
    Case: 65 x 42 x 26 mm, gilt domed oval, two body, beaded top and bottom borders, hinged cover, decorative gilt pendant and hinge frame, ring form bow
    Dial: gilt engraved, black Roman hour numerals with engraved center depicting a village landscape, outer flower and vine motifs, Adam and Eve figures at the top, cherub mask at the base, central single blue steel hand, dial secured to the plate by three pinned rectangular blocks
    Movement: deep full plate fire gilt, slender turned vase form pillars, verge escapement, fusee and gut line, ratchet wheel and click with pierced bridge, engraved and pierced elongated balance bridge secured with block and pin

    Note: although this watch is unsigned, the origin is considered to be French. A rose is engraved and depicted in raised relief on the plate. A similar rose motif is shown on a watch signed by R. Chappele in the book "Watches" by Clutton & Daniels

    Notes: Although unsigned, this watch is considered to be of French origin. A rose is engraved and depicted in partial raised relief on the plate. A similar rose motif is shown on a watch attributed to R. Chappele in the book "Watches" by Clutton & Daniels
