Description

Albert H. Potter & Co. Geneva Rare and Important Gold Watch with Day Indicator No. 683, circa 1890
Case: original, 18k, three body with inner gold bezel and display crystal over the movement, inner back lid is marked with the Potter trademark and engraved with the original Geneva based owners name and the date 1890, 50 mm, open face, plain back, original bow with chain guards
Dial: enamel, Roman numerals, black minute track, constant seconds dial at three, day of the week dial at nine, slender blue steel moon hands
Movement: No. 683, nickel with broad striped damaskeening, 20 ruby jewels, gold settings, straight line lever escapement, bi-metallic balance wheel with gold timing screws, right angle index arm, Maltese governor on the barrel, gold lettering
Signed: triple signed Albert H. Potter & Co. Geneva

Note: Albert H. Potter (1836 - 1908) was one of the greatest watchmakers of the second half of the 19th century and together with Charles Fasoldt, the most renown American watchmaker. It is worth noting that at the height of Potter's career between 1875 and 1895 his watches sold at a cost of $250 to $500. The present example is unique with the addition of a day indication dial at the nine o'clock position. The movement is fitted with one of Potter's patented inventions, an exquisite demi - lune shaped train and barrel bridge.
