George Tyler Verge Fusee with Queen Anne Royal Pillars, circa 1702Case: sterling pair case, outer is 57 mm diameter, plain, both with makers mark of "W I", inner with split bezel, outer with seven joint hinge
Dial: champlevé silver, Roman hours, outer five minute numerals, center signed cartouche, cherub mask, steel beetle and poker hands
Movement: fire gilt, fusee and chain, verge with worm and wheel set up between the plates, four pillars decorated with silver lattice work affixes forming the letter "A" with a royal crowns above and lions below, pierced winged cock with mask, three arm flat steel balance, No. 74
Signed: Geo. Tyler on movement, Tyler on dial, "W I" on cases
It is very probable that this watch was made to commemorate the coronation of Queen Anne in 1702. George Tyler is also the maker of the gold clock watch presented by the Queen to the Earl of Cromarty which appears in this catalog.
